Led by Harborside's very own Carol Burmood, LMHC and Lifecoach, our topic this month was Building a Community of Friends. The following is an overview of what she shared with us...Did you know that God wired us for communication and connections? That's why friendships are so important. Two people are better off than one for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. (Eccl. 4:9-12) Research also indicates that women with strong female social ties live longer, feel better, have better self esteem, more confidence and lower stress levels. Some of the barriers that keep us from getting or having friends are business, geography, isolation, time, stress, marital problems, ourselves. Have you noticed a change in your friendships once you had children? Your ability to make adjustments and cultivate or maintain friendships is essential to your quality of life. Challenge yourself to:
- Make that phone call to encourage or get to know someone
- Pray for God to provide you with good friendships
- Pursue a meeting with someone (a walk, play date, mall time, etc.)
- Search for those few special friends you can DO life with!
Don't underestimate the power of reaching out and being a friend to someone...you may never know the impact of that one act alone being God's hand extended. Being a mom to your children is your greatest ministry for this season of your life...and just maybe the next greatest part of your ministry is being a friend to another mom!
