Helping the Victims of the Haiti Earthquake

The most important thing we can do for ourselves, our loved ones and the world around us is to pray...it really works! Especially during times of tragedy, we often feel helpless and as though we cannot really make a difference. Here are some prayer thoughts for our neighbors in Haiti:
  • Pray for the nation of Haiti as it seeks to recover.
  • Pray for those who have been injured and who have lost loved ones.
  • Pray that supplies, workers, and aid can get to the people.
  • Pray the Haitian believers will use this time to bring Christ to those who are suffering.
  • Pray for all the missionaries that serve Haiti as they try to deal with the death and destruction around them.
  • Rejoice for all of the lives that were spared.

If you feel called to help out more, here are just a few ways:

You can partner with Harborside Church by giving online at http://www.harborsidechurch.org/ (write in Haiti relief) or at International Disaster Emergency Services at http://www.ides.org/

Just in case you didn't receive the email from MOPS International last week about how to help with the tragedy in Haiti, here are more details on that:

You can change the life of a child who is affected by poverty by sponsoring a child right now or donating to the disaster relief fund.Your tax-deductible contribution of $38 a month changes the life of one child by providing food and clean water, an education, life-skills training, and an introduction to a relationship with Jesus Christ. Maybe you have prayed about getting involved and decided it wasn’t the right time. Now is the time to stand up for these children and change a life…you have the power to make a difference!

Compassion has been working in Haiti for more than 40 years and is partnered with 230 churches, helping more than 65,000 children and their families. Tragically, over one third of those children have been affected by the earthquake in Port-au-prince. Compassion is providing medical care, food, safe houses and places for children and their families, as well as life-saving interventions.

MOPS International desires to stand with you because better moms make a better world. They are offering a FREE MOPS membership* with every child sponsored today through 2/28/2010.

  1. Hey Everyone,

I would like to highly recommend Compassion. Several years ago...at a Michael W.Smith concert, we picked a little girl to sponsor. She is in Haiti and we are eager to hear if she is safe. A couple of years later, we 'adopted' a second child in Bolivia. It is so rewarding. They write you letters, send you photos and stay in touch. We look forward teaching our children compassion through this program as they get older. You can even pick the country, birth date or any thing you want in a child. A fun thing to do is pick one that shares the same birthday as you or your child. That makes it even more special.

Just wanted to do a PLUG for an organization that we have really grown to love...Compassion International.

    Thanks,
    Lanie
